Eating for your heart during Ramadan

Blog Ramadan

Many people with heart conditions fast safely during Ramadan. A little planning makes it easier on your heart.

Before Ramadan

See your doctor to check whether fasting is safe for you and to adjust the timing of your medicines.

At iftar

  • Break the fast with water and a few dates
  • Then eat a light, balanced meal — vegetables, lentils, grilled fish or chicken
  • Keep fried snacks like beguni and piyaju as an occasional treat

Between iftar and suhoor

  • Drink plenty of water
  • Take a gentle walk after the evening meal
  • Do not skip suhoor — it keeps your sugar and blood pressure steady

If you feel chest pain, dizziness or unusual breathlessness while fasting, break your fast and seek help.
