An unhurried first visit: your history, a careful examination, an ECG if needed and a clear, written plan.
Most heart problems are found by listening carefully. In your first consultation I ask about your symptoms, your family history and your daily life, examine you properly and look at every report you bring.
What happens during the visit
- We talk about what you feel, when it started and what makes it better or worse
- I check your pulse, blood pressure, heart and lungs
- If needed, an ECG is done in the chamber in about ten minutes
- I explain what I think is going on — and what it is not
What to bring
- Previous prescriptions and discharge papers
- Recent blood tests, ECGs or echo reports
- A list of the medicines you take (or the packets)
- Your home blood pressure readings, if you have them
You leave with a written plan: which tests you need (and which you do not), how to take your medicines and when to see me again.
