Where we started

Mr. R. came to me two weeks after a heart attack and a stent. His heart was pumping at 38% and he was scared that any effort could bring on another attack.

What we did

  • Adjusted his medicines to protect the heart muscle
  • Started a walking plan — five minutes a day, increased every week
  • Taught him to check his pulse and recognise warning signs
  • Repeated the echocardiogram after three and six months

Where he is now

Six weeks later he was walking every morning with his neighbours. Six months later his heart was pumping at 52%, in the normal range, and he has not needed a hospital visit since.

I thought my active life was over. Now I walk to the mosque and back every morning.
